Speak Volumes With a Sound Menu

by | July 22, 2026

If your property consistently receives negative comments about noise, then there is only one thing to do: Implement a Sound Menu.

Month over month, our Client Success team analyzes sentiment trends for our hotel partners, so we know that acoustic complaints are among the most common grievances. If you manage a family-friendly property, a location with a large atrium, or a building without soundproof walls, this sentiment is likely on the rise – especially heading into the busy Summer season. You may think ambient volume is completely out of your control. While this may be true sometimes, implementing a Sound Menu is a proven way to yield positive results.

Offering a list of options to address sleep disturbances communicates that management genuinely cares about the guest’s experience and is paying attention to modern hospitality trends. This unique approach breaks the script and elevates your brand above competitors who only provide earplugs or avoid acknowledging sound issues entirely. In addition, if guests feel seen and heard, they are more likely to bring their complaints to your team members directly, rather than post them on a public platform.

Here are 4 simple items to add to your Sound Menu:

  1. Earplugs – This may seem like a given, and maybe something you’ve already tried, but it’s always a great option.
  2. Sound machines – There are several affordable selections online, starting from $20. If placing one in every room is unrealistic, purchase a few and rent them out to guests for a small fee. This add-on amenity can easily pay for itself and set you up to purchase new units when needed. Also, this creates an opportunity to smooth over a multitude of mishaps by allowing team members the ability to waive the fee in special cases.
  3. Sleepy-Time YouTube Playlist – There are many ad-free 10-hour videos of white noise, nature sounds, and peaceful music that can be curated to a playlist. The best part is that it’s free!
  4. Earbuds – This feature is specifically for guests who plan on playing your Sleepy-Time YouTube Channel from their phone or are used to sleeping with their favorite show in the background. These could be disposable add-ons, like the ones airlines supply, but they are a great premium solution to help keep the peace.

Modern guests want novelty. They are comparing their stay to social media expectations – an ideal stay, a flawless family vacation, or a perfect night’s sleep in their home away from home. To be clear, perfection is not the goal. The objective is to win confidence and trust that your team is doing everything they can to create the best guest experience possible. Being transparent about common issues and actively providing a solution speaks volumes about your team and is sure to make an impact online.
